Stop CyberBullying
Cyberbullying is very difficult to stop because there is “no one solution fits all” answer. The biggest key to stopping cyberbullying is to talk to children. Internet safety for kids starts with parents getting involved. Remember that communication is the key.
Guidlines to spotting cyberbullying
- attitude changes more aggressive or angry
- No talking to being anti-social
- Unwilling to leave home or go in public
Tips on teaching children how to dealing with cyber bullying
- Take a 5 minute break
- Don't replay or respond to messages
- Tell kids everything will be ok
- Relate to what is going on to something that happened to you
Contact Schools
Contact your local school administrator and advise them what is going on. Advise them who is cyberbullying your child and you woul like their help
- Have the school arrange a meeting between the parents
- Have the school conduct a meeting about cyberbullying
*Parent should remember that schools don’t have the authority to stop or punish cyberbullying. It generally occurs off school ground.
Social Networking
When it comes to social networking cyberbullying it can be one of the easiest to identify if parents follow Internet Safety Center social networking guide.
- Review your child profile looking for cyberbullying or harassment
- Review all pictures posted online
- Reviews the friends list and verify the names
Texting
If parents believe that someone is texting inappropriate message to your child contact the cell phone provider and have them provide you with transcripts on all text messages.

- Look for attitude changes in your child
Special Note
Parents should not use the friend privileges on social networking sites to spy on children. Looking at your kids profile for cyberbullying and inappropriate pictures are ok, but don’t start asking kids about other things you see on the site. Remember we were all kids and we wanted our privacy. Abusing this privileges could lead to other issues with children. The same goes for reviewing cell phones.
