Credit Card Information Exposed Online
Blippy.com has announced that credit card information of customers has been released on the web. You could actually find the credit card numbers by doing a simple Google search. The search results display the customers address and credit card number. All the information has been removed from Google but it was exposed for 24 hours.
This exposure again results from companies not understanding internet safety and company security. The CEO of Blippy.com indicated that after this incident they are going to hire a computer and internet security specialist for internal and external corporate security. This is exactly why internet safety starts with internet users and not companies. If you are making purchases online verify that it is done with a credit card.
Companies need to hire internet safety and security experts before a breach occurs. Internet safety is something that can’t be put on hold. The internet is open and people are vulnerable. Security must be a top priority for all companies.
Internet Safety starts with understanding what you are responsible for and how it can affect you. Internet Safety Center recommends that anybody making purchases online should have a separate dedicated credit card. This credit card should have a low limit and only be used for the internet. Credit cards offer 60 day protection against fraud verse debit card and 48 hours. Using one card for all internet purchases allows you to only make one call and not several.
McAfee Update Crashes Computers
McAfee last week released a new security update that caused computers all across the world crash or get stuck in a reboot cycle. The antivirus update wasn’t tested properly and the result has been making users fix their pc manually.
If after updating McAfee your computer crashes contact McAfee and they will walk you through the fix. If you have access to a separate computer you can download the instructions and fix it manually. The fix only takes a few minutes and easy to follow.
McAfee has promised to reward users who are infected by this issue. McAfee hasn’t announced what they are going to do but they did say compensation will be coming. We believe that McAfee will offer users six months to a year in free antivirus updates.
Microsoft Pulls Patch
Microsoft has announced that last week a patch that was pushed out to protect users against a security threat isn’t working. The patch isn’t doing anything and computers are still unprotected. The patch will be released later this week or next to resolve the issue.
Last week we experienced a lot of internet security issues. This should tell everybody online that companies still aren’t thinking about security and taking it seriously. The internet is full of information that could lead to identity theft and fraud. All computers online should have anti-virus and malware software along with Windows updates installed. Verify that all internet purchases are used with one credit card with a low limit. Doing the simple to protect yourself online goes along way.
