Additional Suggestions to Help Prevent Identity Theft

Suggestion-1: Use a Single Credit for Internet Purchases.

If you are shopping online we recommend using a single credit card for all purchases.  If you use a single card for all internet purchases it is easy to monitor and if something wrong happens and only have to make one phone call.  Credit cards also offer better terms in length of time to report fraud or abuse and the amount you are responsible for.  We don’t recommend using a debit card because it is directly linked to your bank account.

Suggestion - 2 Use an alternate email address for newsletters.

Do you sign up for several newsletters, coupon sites, gaming sites, or other websites?  We have two recommendations for this.  One, create an email address with Gmail, Yahoo, or Hotmail and use that email address for all these sites.  Have all of these emails go to that email address.  This way whenever you check the email account you know that all it is junk mail and your don’t need to respond to any of it.

Second, use a fake name when signing up for newsletters.  If you use a fake name for these sites and then you get an email saying your account needs to be updated or you have suspicious activity on your account you don’t have to worry about it.  You can make the assumption that the email is designed to get personal information from you.  Simply hit delete.
